The Ancient of Days

This icon is properly understood within the context of Christ being from all eternity and having been both "with God" and "was God" as Saint John the Theologian tells us in the first chapter of his Gospel narrative. When the Prophets saw a vision of God enthroned in Heaven, the one whom they saw "Like the Son of Man" was indeed the second person of the Godhead in His Preincarnate state.

It is theologically incorrect to see this as "God the Father" although such icons exist from later times, even if improper and less than ideal.

This icon originates from a 14th c. Fresco in the Monastery of Saint George in Ubisi, Georgia.
