Description
An enduring & ancient symbol, the double headed eagle dates back to the time of Justinian the Great, re-emerging in the 10th century as a mark of the imperial unity of the Byzantine Empire. The eagle symbol gained its recognizable two heads under the rule of Emperor Isaac I Komnenos, representing authority over both east & west as well the unity of church & state also known as Symphonia.  The double headed eagle has since become a powerful symbol of Orthodox Christianity throughout the world.
